Set of 4 Art glass coasters – each are 4 1/2″ in diameter
Boy am I tired.
After about 20 years I went ice skating again. My brother who does not read my blog has two boys, 6 and almost 4. The six-year-old is taking ice skating lessons and wanted The Husband to show him how to skate backwards. So off we went. I never thought I could still skate but I could. And it was fun. OK, there were no comparisons to Peggy Fleming, but at least I didn’t fall.
After skating it was off to Monster Mini Golf which is indoors and has black (UV) lighting. Wow, flashback to the 60’s and 70’s. It had great music, a disco ball, and our shirts and shoelaces glowed in the dark. We topped that off with some ski-ball. It’s an arcade game where you toss a ball up an incline and try to get it into different holes for points and tickets. A bazillion tickets gets you a pencil eraser. At that point The Husband and I had to go home. We couldn’t take any more excitement.
I am now going to take 3 Advils and go to bed. My whole body hurts. Wait, maybe first I will make a cosmo and rest the glass on these lovely art glass coasters that I made. This way I don’t get rings on my fancy tray table.
The coasters are made by decoupaging images on the back of glass coasters with plain old Elmer’s glue. Then some bronzing powders (the metallic in the images above – I used gold and chocolate) paint and polyurethane. The process is very time-consuming but I love the results. Can’t wait to make more.
When can I quit my tedious day job so I can play with paint, glue and scissors all day?

I don’t think I want to try the ice skating, but the coaster project sounds like fun, and yours are lovely!

Those coasters look Russian… great design ! I love those !!
PS I ice skated once… me in my pointy green hood and black glasses. I looked like Gumby ! OR a big crayon. My ankles kept collapsing inward.

That’s because I drink Russian vodka. I wanted the coasters to match my drinks. 🙂
Gumby! Skating! hahahahahahahaha!

I like ice skating! Miniature golf and that I think it’s called skeetball? is fun too! Oh, the wonders of youth. I always sleep well after days like that.
Your coasters are gorgeous and I do know the time you put into them My Mother decoupaged and taught me how. It was fun. We never made coasters as beautiful as yours, though! Love that deep red.

I used to love ice skating. But after so many years I was pleased that I could still stand on my skates.
I’m glad you like the coasters. They are even more beautiful in person.

Nice coasters! Perfect with a cosmo nestled within.
Skating was whizzy when we were kids and is a reality check for grown-ups.
I heard that sneakers on a wire showed where dope was sold. Now that dope’s legal, sneakers on a wire is just cool. Like your painting of them is.

I couldn’t roller skate. Remember those skates with the skate keys? Or are you too young. I COULD roller blade though since it was more like ice skating.
Happy to hear you liked the coasters and the sneaker painting.

After hear this from you for so many times, I am glad that I finally have a chance to return the favor: “I am tired just from reading/hearing about your day. I am the most tired person in the world.”
I hate my job too. Let’s win the lottery and quit together.

That’s how I feel after reading a summary of Alice’s day…exhausted.
Oh, if we could only win the lottery!!!!!

Your day sounds very energetic! I haven’t been ice-skating for 20 years either, although i do indulge in mini-golf when my stepson comes to stay. Its pirate themed and at random moments you can get soaked with water cannon spray but its fun! Your trippy disco golf sounds more fun though! I love these coasters and would really love if you would do a ‘how to’ post giving the step by steps as i would love to try this! You’re a very talented lady!

The coasters are stunning and you might want to consider changing your order of events on the weekend to prevent further exhaustion from indulging in too many activities that end in ..ing.
If you had the Cosmos FIRST, you would be more inclined to shorten that activity list to the best word that ends with ..ing: NAPPING!
Jimmy’s right about the Russian influence in the colors and patterning.

Napping is always my favorite activity. Never thought about the coasters having a Russian influence. Hmmm.

I LOVE your blog, Carol. I miss having the time to cruise around and comment everywhere. Camping, shoes on power lines, skating…. you have been so busy! Your paintings have been wonderful and I love these coasters!!! Have you seen the site called Cloth Paper Scissors. You’ll want to quit your job and play with scissors all day! It makes me want to and I haven’t even tried any of their projects yet. Have fun!

I would love to play with scissors all day and I promise not to run with them.

It is amazing to me that you could go skating, mini-golfing and playing arcade games all in one day. Let alone come home and blog about it. I would need a day to recover if I did just one of these things.
BTW, what is your cosmo recipe? I don’t like any of those I tried. And also Russian vodka is nothing special, take is from a Russian. It does the job, but has no finesse. I much prefer Absolut or Skyy.
I really like your coasters! And they do have a hint of Russian Palekh style. You are so good with these, I still remember your gold plate I was so impressed.

I don’t often do so many things in one day. This was an exception. And I was only kidding about the Russian vodka. I like the ones you mentioned, but my favorite is Grey Goose.
I’ll email you my cosmo recipe.

Well, I will have a cosmo with you. And my…I do like those coasters. Did you ice skate at Wollman rink? That was my favorite thing to do in Brooklyn. Sounds like you just had the greatest time.

Growing up I used to go to Wollman rink. Maybe we bumped into each other there! Glad you like the coasters,

Great coasters! I think they probably looked even better with that cosmo on top. Fun with the kiddies keeps you young at heart but its hell on liver.
Love my job but i will most definitly enjoy retirement… that is if we are ever able to retire!

Yep, the coasters always look better with a cosmo (or other cocktail) sitting atop them. I hate my job and am afraid I won’t EVER get to retire.

I love those coasters (wish I could get glass coasters here, I’d make some of my own!)
I remember black light! Everything white shines so much. There was a band who were half music, half theatre in the early seventies called Principal Edwards Magic Theatre who’d wear black leotards that had white skeletons painted on the fronts and backs and under a black bulb it was truly eerie!
I’ve never skated, I should imagine that with my wonky balance I’d do myself a serious injury!

I can’t believe you didn’t invite your brother in law to go skating. We’d have had a throw double axle in our repertoire by the end of the day. LOVE the coasters! It would be a shame to cover them up with drinks. Oh well, guess we’d just never have to put them down.
