You may remember this painting when I posted it before. And you may remember when I went to New York Stage and Film’s Winter Gala at the Plaza last year which I talked about here. So once again, off I went to the Plaza.
This year the Gala honored Laura Linney, the actress, and Jordan Roth, president of Jujamcyn Theaters. I donated the above painting for the Silent Auction, proceeds to benefit NY Stage and Film.
I know I’m getting old because the Gala started much later this year (7 pm) and by the time it was over I was exhausted. Plus I couldn’t care less about the stars that were there. I only noted a few of them. There was Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame. And Alan Rickman who is most recently known for his performance as Serverus Snape in the Harry Potter movies. He actually walks like Severus Snape in real life!
There were others whose names I can’t remember now. This is becoming the story of my life. (Not remembering things.) But a good time was had by all.
I also got a new phone. I traded in my blackberry and got a droid. I now have a phone that is smarter than I am. And I still can’t figure out how to use it. Bah!

Hey, I am the first one! I wish I was able to go with you. Between the two of us, I am sure we would be able to identify more celebrities. Unfortunately, I had to host my own party which went well, but without the luster of your presence…
I like the painting very much. The color of the shadow is wonderfully poetic and the depiction of space is very nice also.

Kung, you would have had a blast. Between the TV, movie and theatre stars we would have been very busy. And then the women with the jewelry and the outfits. We would have laughed and laughed for hours!
So sorry I missed your party, but the left over Chinese food was fantastic.

Beautiful painting! I really like Laura Linney – what a great actress who doesn’t get all the kudos she deserves. And Alan Rickman? Well, I think I would have had to try to meet him – have had a crush since seeing him in several Brit films. I admit I haven’t seen the Harry Potter films.

Hi Ronda, glad you like the painting. Laura Linney was very pretty. She had on a very short skirt and my husband liked her legs!
Alan Rickman was fun to see. I haven’t seen him in the Brit films, but I have seen the Harry Potter movies.

Well, I think you are very generous to offer this up for auction! I remember being blown away by the brightness of light that the shadow caused from the palm tree.
A DROID? Isn’t that a robot-like thing? I still don’t have a cell phone, but if this one does housecleaning, let me know. I could use some droid help with that.
I’m there with you on the remembering scores. The short term ones seem to be the killers. I’m great with stuff from years ago.

I wanted to help my sister and thought this would be a good donation for NY Stage and Film. A droid is a kind of phone. Now that I’m more used to it, I’m really having fun with it.

Hey! someone got a beautiful painting. Good luck with the phone – they are pushing this technology way way way beyond chatting on a box…

aw thanks Stephen.
And yes, my new phone is a long way from the old, black rotary phones that were mounted to the wall.

I remember those – I also remember on farms we had community lines so you first had to check whether the line was busy and then spin the handle to get the operator who asked “nommer asseblief?” (number please). It became part of the culture and there was a TV show about country community called “Nommer Asseblief”. The local busybody invariably spent time listening in on everyone else’s conversations so people would insert gossip about her in their chat – all that kind of stuff. Happy painting… – and selling

Ok…when you can remember, tell me how to use that Droid. I still have an old fashioned thick and weighty cell that I use mainly to talk to other people. What else could I possibly manage? Good luck with it.
Another lovely thing for you to do with that great image, Carol.
Now what is the secrect to walking away from John Hamm?:-)
I love Laura Linney, too. How fun that you get to go to these things.

I’m liking the droid more and more. I’m addicted to these newfangled phones!
John Hamm was pretty darn handsome. It was hard to take my eyes off him.

great painting. lucky bidder.
and Alan Rickman? I’m with Rhonda… and besides the Brit films (and, of course, his superior stage presence in numerous plays) – who could beat his Metatron in Dogma?
CHEERS!

I completely forgot he was in Dogma. Loved that movie. Thanks for the clip.

This is an amazing painting, with the light and shadows, so cool!
My phone was smarter than me… when we used rotary dial phones! Now that’s sad, hmmm what was I thinking about, hmm maybe if I go back into the other room I’ll remember. That’s my life story anymore, but I’m losing weight walking back and forth to room to room trying to remember things.

Stick to painting; avoid the Droid. I don’t even watch TV. Yes… I am a Luddite snob! And I’m here at my computer to tell you this!

I remember this painting, love the palm shadow, purple on subtle pink. You are generous to donate such a nice one. Do you know if it has sold? Who bought it? You may want to know the name to be able to say “in private collection of …” on your resume.

I’m sure I can get the info from my sister as to who bought it. I do know it was sold. Thanks Alex

Lovely painting! And ooh la la, the Gala sounds wonderful, a much more interesting crowd than those we attend here in the Midwest. Although Jon Hamm is from STL. You mentioned some of my fave actors tho (and you can tell I am still starstruck 🙂
Thank you so very much for the stencil order. I hope you love them as much as I do. Can’t wait to see what you make!!!

Hi Mary Beth, Thanks for stopping by and commenting on the painting. The Gala was a lot of fun.
Can’t wait for my stencils to arrive. As soon as I saw them I knew I wanted them.

I think it says a lot that your painting is actually memorable to this forgetful audience. But memorable it is. Mmm– nice and warm. And it’s very good of you to donate.
Now, about this Droid… It’s not (ahem) an iPhone, but at least it’s not a Crackberry. As long as you know you don’t have to do everything it can, you’ll have fun. Congrats!

I know the droid is not an iPhone, but I still need to make calls with it and AT&T service is not reliable. Oh well, I have to settle for 2nd best. 😦

I’d say, that is a really cool painting.

As an IPHONE lover, I’d been proud if you donated the Droid and sent the painting to me! Why is everything about me? Don’t answer.

I like the shadows of the palm. Nice of you to donate the painting!! Sounds like a fun time.l
Have a Merry Christmas!

This is an enchanting painting but it looks a lot like a palm tree which seems out of place in New York. A lovely painting regardless of location!
Merry Christmas – It is ok if you send me something late.
