3 pots – watercolor on Strathmore 140# coldpress – approx 8″ x 10″
The bears have been very active lately. Two nights ago we came out to walk the dog. As we got to the top of the driveway there was a black bear standing in the road. We stared at each other for a few moments. And then it went into a neighbor’s yard and stayed there while we walked the dog. It was still there as we returned, behind the trees, looking at us with someone’s white trash bag next to it. Looking very guilty. LOL.
Yesterday there were two bears walking around our house. One in the morning and one at night. They are always out there. When we are out in the front, in the back, chatting with neighbors, walking the dog. They are there. Mostly we don’t see them. I’m torn between thinking this is very cool and being over bears. I remember the days in NYC when we had neighborhood crime watches. Now the neighborhood watch consists of texting neighbors to alert them of bear activity. I kinda miss the criminals. OK, not really.
Here’s a little painting of 3 terracotta pots for #worldwatercolormonth. Have a wonderful day.

We’ve had a couple of bear sightings here in my town but I’ve never seen one in my neighborhood (yet). Love your watercolor. N.

Hi Nina, I never thought I’d get used to them but I’m sort of used to them. With a huge respect and a lot of space between me and them.

love this Carol! Does a charging bear make you paint faster? Helps to loosen up your brushstrokes? BKLYN doesn’t need bears, that is for sure!

They haven’t charged me yet, Joy. Bklyn has enough going on, it sure doesn’t need bears. 🙂

This is really beautiful, Carol! Just love it! Wow and I can’t imagine that but I do think I’d prefer the bears to the city lol. 💜💜💜

I guess you just have to bear with them.

Did you hear the loud groan from western North Carolina?

When driving in the New Forest, a flash from an oncoming car can indicate that there are ponies on the road round the next bend

HI Carol,
You bear problem is similar to the deer problem we have out on Fire Island — although yours is potentially considerably more dangerous if they get provoked!!! The beach summer people feed the deer, and the National Seashore people won’t thin the herds, and it’s too far for the deer to swim off the island. So they are a real domesticated pest, like yours. Besides being unnatural, it’s unnerving to see, isn’t it?
Loved your terra cotta pot painting! After four years at The Art Students League, I am taking watercolor classes at The School of Visual Arts and The Cooper Union this summer, in hopes of finding a new teacher who will challenge me a little more. So far, no luck.
I still go to Kaaren’s on Wednesday afternoons. But since she started to advertise, her classes are full and she is awfully busy with the newbies…
Love, Sys

Those three pots are ready to have plants potted in them. Nice flow of color. The bear was probably out for a neighborhood stroll

Love your little pots painting and I think it’s fantastic that you live somewhere that still has predators other than humans!

I think we should start calling you Goldilocks (‘cept for your hair). And are you sure it wasn’t Matt?

Beautiful work Carol!
My sister is spotting them a lot in her neighborhoods. Left alone, they seem to be cute looking, but can’t digest the fact that they are now desperate enough for food, searching the trash.

You need a gun. A some shooting lessons. Just to know that you can. I love natural bears very much, in TV monitor.
Nice pots.

this is such a cool painting – wow – so skilled. And those bears! They are scary creatures – I hope you carry bear- spray or something – but it is so cool that they are around

I like this painting very much!
Hard to say what is better, criminals or bears… I think it depends on how close they are! Here in Poland bears live only in the mountains but recently I had quite similar experience, while I walked my dog, although it was not bear, but wild-boar, very big one 🙂

This is a beautiful little painting – you’ve limited your colours and kept it loose and simple, yet very effective. The bears sound equally fascinating and frightening, but really cool.

Wonderful little painting. I love the combination of the blues and oranges.
As for bears, well I would hate to have to share my wild berries with them. I think they would win the territorial spat. LOL

I’m not sure I could get so used to seeing bears outside my house. I think they are much braver than me. lol Nice painting of the pots. You captured the light nicely!
