Two slices to go – watercolor on Arches 140# coldpress
Did you ever say anything and as the words exited your mouth you thought “never in a million years would I ever think I would say that”?
It happened to me two days ago. As The Husband and I were preparing to leave the house to go pick up friends we saw a mama bear and cub in a neighbor’s yard and continued to watch them as they proceeded across our road, down our driveway and around our car. It was then that I realized we would be late.
ME texting friend: We will be late because there are bears in our driveway.
FRIEND who lives around the corner and knows about bears: HA!
I guess this is our new normal. They are cuter than NYC rats and about the same size. 🙂
The Brother, sister-in-law and two nephews were in town last week. We had a great time but despite all of our talk about bears they didn’t see a one. What they did do is sing a song that I now can’t get out of my head. It’s called: It’s raining tacos and it’s very catchy. Have a listen. You’ll be singing along with me.
The above painting is based on the two slices I got on a recent trip to NYC. Nestled between the 8th Ave. subway entrance at 40th street and a homeless shelter was a hole-in-the-wall pizza place and the pizza was yummy. And just as much fun to paint.

I’ll see what I can do but so far everyone who visits does not see bears. We only see them once they leave.

Yes, those pizza slices were yummy. And at $5 for two slices + a beverage, it is a bargain ANYWHERE! I am so glad to have the privilege of chomping down pizza with you at that hole-in-the-wall. Come back more often and we can do it all over again.
Bears and close-minded politicians scare me. This NYC boy is staying where he is. No NC trips for a while… 😦

Love the pizza! Great bear photos! I do believe that’s the first time I’ve heard that excuse for being late:) You’re such fun, Carol!

Hi Candy, It’s the first time I’ve had to use that excuse for being late. But who knows…I may have to use it again someday.

Pizza and bears…I like the juxtaposition. No bears in NYC yet, but plenty of very large raccoons who are not the least intimidated by humans. Joining the rats. (K)

Hi K, I remember seeing a big, fat raccoon walking down my street with no concern for people. So odd!

Hi Cathyann, We have so many bears. I’m always careful to look around when I go outside. Just like NYC! Thanks for the visit and comment.

Nice slice. Our old pizzeria near Junior High was called The Pizza Den. That name would fly here in AVL. Fun time yesterday.

Yum to the pizza!!!! I still can’t believe you had bears in your driveway. I guess at this point it isn’t surprising. lol You are in the country and far from the big city. I am heading in tomorrow for sketching and then the AWS show. I haven’t been able to get in for a few weeks and I miss it.

No bears in Sw England. The cat brings in a rabbit every day, Or, more distressingly, half a rabbit.

Excellent choice of subject matter for a painting! Now, I’m hungry, though. Wow, what does one do if they have to get to the car to go to work or school? How many times could I use that excuse and get away with it? I suppose it happens pretty frequently where you now live, though. Thank you for sharing the pictures, Carol!

I’m sure glad we don’t have bears here. I’m NOT sharing my berries!!

Scary having bears roaming around, but also quite a cool excuse for being late. Pizza slices make an unusual subject for a painting, yet it works really well. Yum-yum-yum-yum-yummity-yum!

Since moving away from NY many years ago, I’ve spent my life looking for a good version of NY pizza. Fortunately, I’ve found it in Vancouver, although quite a drive away and in Edmonton, walking distance from my daughter’s. Both owners had ties to NY. There’s nothing like it.
We have the bear thing happening here, too, and luckily most of the guests at our house saw a mama and two cubs while here for my daughter’s wedding almost 10 years ago.
