“Waiting” 22 1/4″ x 15″ watercolor on Arches 300# cold press
I’ve always wondered this? I guess I am too old to write “U” for “you” and “Ur” for “your”. Unless you’re on Twitter, why would you write this way? WHY? Or should I ask “Y”???
On a completely unrelated note, Mexican food in Western North Carolina (“WNC”) is a sad state. (And don’t even get me started about pizza, which, for the most part, is just vile here.) There’s a restaurant not far from our house where we go to sometimes. It makes me crazy that they offer rice OR beans with their meals. RICE OR BEANS ? EVERYONE knows that it’s Rice AND Beans. They go together. Like cookies and milk, peanut butter & jelly, wine & cheese.
Ugh! Rice OR Beans! Makes me crazy. I give them a lecture whenever I’m there. Like they care.
Waiter thought bubble: “Shut up crazy gringo lady. You want rice AND beans, order the rice and get beans on the side and get over it.”
OK, I’m over it. In Maine where my old dog walking buddy Charlie and his wife Liz now live they have a Mexican restaurant called El El Frijole (LL Bean). I laughed and laughed when I heard this. Maybe they can’t cook Mexican food well in Maine, but at least they have a sense of humor about it.
Finally, the bears have returned. We saw a mama and cub crossing the road on the late dog walk about 2 weeks ago. Seeing them announced the arrival of spring and also had us quietly but quickly backtracking back to the house. As soon as we saw them, we noticed the trees started blooming and the daffodils and crocus have come up. Groundhog Schmoundhog. We got bears!
The above painting was one I posted sometime last year but it wasn’t quite finished, but now it is. And for no reason here’s a painting of an Asheville fire hydrant:
Asheville fire hydrant – 9″ x 12″ watercolor on Arches 140# coldpress
It looks a little drunk but it was fun to paint.
Thank U for visiting.

I LOVE your steel girder painting. The fire hydrant is nice too.
So pizza and Mexican are out but how are the Chinese and Thai?

Every home should have a drunk fire hydrant on their wall. Love waiting too.

Thanks for putting up your “Waiting” painting again – a firm favourite of mine! Thanks to you I now actually look at metal structures properly and can see the beauty in them – only yesterday driving over a new bridge for the first time, I thought that you would have made a great painting of it. A drunk fire hydrant? Haha! It’s a very attractive one, wish ours looked like that in England. Not sure I’d like having bears roaming around my neighbourhood.

I had to smile at your comments on U. I think it’s like slang…we old people aren’t supposed to “get” it. I don’t get emojis either. Just say what you mean!
Love your finished city painting. Also the colorful fire hydrant. Glad there are no bears yet back here in NYC…
I’ll eat some rice and beans for you next time I’m at Flor de Mayo. (K)

Your “Waiting” painting is so cool. The prominent diagonal beam gives it so much depth and pushes my eye to study the background. Love it! Way cool and colorful fire hydrant. Ours are just plain yellow around here.

Love both “Waiting” and the drunken hydrant.
As always, a delight to read your post.
What do those who “u” and “ur” do with their extra time? I expect they’re on one or many devices doing not much of anything if my students are any indication. I know I’m getting old so what I say should be taken with a grain of salt but I swear sometimes it seems we’re seeing the death of literacy.
A fellow teacher told me of her student who couldn’t read a letter from her grandmother because it was written in cursive, which is no longer taught.

I was wondering where you found subway girders in NC. lol One thing about NC is it is closer to the SW where you CAN get real Mexican food. Bears??? I guess you are ready for that since NYC has rats that are probably as big as some bears. I like the painting of the fire hydrant…good colors and shading. They are so different in different places…how do the dogs know what they are. Hope you had a HAPPY ST. PATTY’S DAY! How do they celebrate down there?

Couldn’t stop smiling when I read your comments, so glad you guys got yourselves back home before the Bear stood her ground! Beautiful works of art Carol – you are going to love NC in the Springtime, maybe not the Mexican food or pizza’s, but definitely the beautiful wonders of nature.

The thing about the ‘U’ is that back when texting was new and when cell phones were mostly slider phones or flip phones…one paid text fees by the letter/spaces so a whole new set of ‘words’ were created for that purpose.
And, for the record, I’ll mention we feel your pain about food choices in the SE and posit that South Carolina is worse than the more sophisticated North Carolina…hubby’s from New Mexico and I’m from Colorado and so the real question we are used to answering is: Green or Red?

Try Mexican food in Minnesota..they are afraid of spicy…transplant from southern California is unhappy. I’ll hang on to you and yours!

You should have an exhibition of your steel girder paintings – so good! I love the fire hydrant too (should take more water with it… ;)) and bears…Wow!

Do you remember the subway ads in NY from zillions of years ago that said:
” If u cn rd this, u cn gt a gd jb with mr py “. Maybe UR 2 young, but they were surely the precursors to tweets. Who knew that twits would turn to tweets. Anyway………… it’s fun to share the misery, er, joy of painting with you in real time.

Carol, I’m completely with you on “u” and “ur”.
I really like “Waiting”. I like the fire hydrant, too.
I think my mom knows of a decent (not great, but decent) Mexican restaurant in Hendersonville. I’ll ask her and let you know. I agree with Cathe about the Mexican food in Minnesota and in Wisconsin, too. You should hear what they put in their guacamole. Yikes!
I don’t think I can help you on the pizza.
Hooray for the bears! Spring is here!!!!

Love love love the name of that restaurant. And your colours, too, on the NY painting.

I still have a flip phone so no texting for me. It may be quicker for the sender but I waste too much time figuring out what someone is saying when it slips into everyday communications. I may have to resort to a texting dictionary. LOL (Some shortcuts are okay)
Love your industrial drawings. Architectural artworks are still my favorite thing. Even your fireplug might be considered architectural, don’t you think?
In our university town we are fortunate to have lots of different cuisines. The Thai restaurant is our current favorite.

Ur welcome! ha ha Love the fire hydrant – who needs a reason to paint one? As for Mexican food, I’m not sure you can get real Mexican food anywhere but in Mexico or Texas, maybe New Mexico or Arizona? Best to just try to get the ingredients and make your own with rice and beans 🙂 Happy Spring (beware of the bears!).

I love your painting so much and as usual your writing lifted my spirits on a Monday – El El Frijole – heh heh – But now what about these bears? They are big things – please be careful
