It’s Superbowl Sunday and unlike most people I couldn’t care less. I just asked the Husband how many points did one team get when they scored a touchdown. (I knew, really, I was just checking.) He stared at me and asked me what country I was born in. I’d rather be watching the puppy bowl. I have been switching back and forth. The Husband doesn’t mind. A puppy just got a penalty of five yards for tail biting. How cute is that?
It’s cold and they are predicting more snow tonight just in time to make tomorrow’s commute a joy. At least they are not talking about another snowpocalypse.
I did some tree practice. Above are some birch trees. Below a really fun spatter tree.
Another tree style using a flat brush, working wet in wet on damp paper. And some pears below because everyone loves painting pears.
And here’s a picture of my doggie in the snow. For those of you who’ve asked, she’s wearing what’s called “a gentle leader” or a “haltie” and not a muzzle. The gentle leader allows someone like me to walk a 90+ lb dog and control her. I’m giving her a five yard penalty for laying in the snow and not wanting to walk!

LOVE your watercolors. They are so beautiful.
Let’s see how much snow Linus will bring us tonight, or will it be sleet and freezing rain. I’d rather have snow.
Hope to see you at drawing sometime this week.

It always throws me that they name the snowstorms now. At first I couldn’t understand who Linus was and what he was bringing. (Cake?) LOL

By the way, it has actually been a pretty exciting Superbowl so far, unlike the snoozefest last year. I am not a big Katie Perry fan but I’ve got to give her props to be willing to be strapped to that little platform and fly around the stadium. I would have had a reverse dinner experience….

I thought Katie was ok. At least there were no wardrobe malfunctions! The puppy bowl was still much better.

Your watercolors are lovely, especially liked the pears. You sound so much like my sister, she wanted to snuggle in her bed with a book yesterday but dragged out by friends to watch Superbowl together 🙂

Even if you don’t care about the Superbowl there’s always social activities surrounding it that are fun. I’m sure you sister had fun with her friends.

The tree trunks are striking. Really abstract. The others are good also.

I’ve never understood American football- i was in Boston visiting an Irish band that my then boyfriend was managing (long story) and it was on tv and it was so boring-all stops and starts and measuring stuff. I don’t blame you for not caring for it. No idea what a puppy bowl is but i like the sound of it! Your trees are really good i love the birches and the wet on wet especially. We had a great dane/lurcher cross in the shelter-a big gentle giant and we used a Haltie on him as he was the size of a Shetland pony!

Compared to your football or rugby, American football can be slow. The puppy bowl is a show where puppies run around with toys and if one runs across the end zone line they get a touchdown (points). It’s adorable.

I love the birch trees! American football does seems so very stop-start and well protected – compared to Rugby!

Thanks for your comment. Your rugby is crazy!

I want every one of these – including the snap of the ruppy (with the “haltie”)

Wonderful watercolors.
I can’t even remember the last time I watched a Superbowl but then again, every Superbowl my home team was ever in, they lost and badly. One can only take so much humiliation and stay sane.

Thank you Tom. I don’t know what team you’d be rooting for. I only care about the Superbowl if the Giants or Jets (haha) are playing. But even then I don’t care that much. 🙂

Love your paintings Carol, the light touch you have with the watercolors is awesome in extracting gentle details. So funny your analogy of dog points compared to human touchdowns!

What a great post. I have absolutely no idea how many points make a touchdown, but I don’t even follow football over here. The puppy game sounds much more fun.
Love your splatter trees – fun!

Carol, I love those birches and the other paintings, too!
I especially love your dog. The gentle leader is a miracle. My husband said he would no longer walk Rosie because she was pulling so hard that it wasn’t worth the pain. I got a gentle leader and no more pulling.
Go Packers! (next year) Go Puppies, too!

Love the tree studies and yes, everyone loves pears and each one is different! I just heard about the gentle leader from a friend who has a therapy dog (he brought her, a standard poodle named Phaedra, to see me before my surgery on the 23rd and I was instantly happy and very touched to see them – and asked about the “muzzle” which wasn’t a muzzle at all). Thanks for sharing your artwork and your doggie – 5 yards for laying down in the snow seems excessive but I’m not crazy about football anyway and only watch the SuperBowl for the halftime show (not that great after the beginning) and the commercials (pretty much of a letdown after previous years). So – yay for puppy bowls and kitten bowls and wonder if they can come up with crow bowls – or would have make a good painting!! Ha ha! Stay safe and warm, you guys!

Paintings of trees are wonderful-my favorite is the wet on wet.As for football, i love it (ever since my son played in H.S. ) . Crazy shutting the subways, i guess better safe than sorry:) Peace my friend.
P.S. i wrote another entire comment, which was much funnier than this one, but somehow a fat roll eased over the top of the computer and deleted it! ugh

Really, really like the birch trees, Carol. Kaiya is so sweet, don’t penalize her. High praise for the gentle leader. They are more effective and cause less damage to the dog, too…. so I have been told.

Glad you found a way to watch the Super Bowl and enjoy viewing puppies instead. I only watched the halftime show. Football just doesn’t excite me. The birches look good and the splatter trees look fun. Looks like your little puppy enjoys the snow!
