Carroll Street Bridge – Work in Progress
EXIT STRATEGY: A PLAY IN ONE ACT
This is dedicated to my brother who does not read my blog.
How’s the business going?
I’m doing very well. My business is growing
Good for you. What’s your exit strategy?
I’m not sure yet.
You have to start thinking about that now.
Hey Rob, what have you been doing?
I’ve worked for the same company for 20 years.
Oh????
Yeah…. My exit strategy is death
The End
I started this watercolor to celebrate the reopening of the Carroll Street Bridge, one of only two retractable bridges in NYC. The other being the Borden Avenue Bridge in Queens. It was built in 1889 and from the NYTimes: ‘This relic of the late 19th century, which today connects Carroll Gardens with Park Slope, is not just one of the oldest of New York City’s 25 movable bridges, but also one of its quirkiest. As in a quaint New England covered bridge, its deck is made of thick boards, making it the city’s only wooden bridge that carries cars. The approaches are lined with cobblestones, many of them laid in 1889 when the bridge opened. It even features an old sign that warns: “Any Person Driving over this Bridge Faster than a Walk will be Subject to a Penalty of Five Dollars For Each Offence.” ‘ If you’re interested in bridges, you can read about it here.

Your one-act play made me laugh! Glad I had a better exit strategy for the NYC Bd of Ed than that! lol This painting of the bridge is off to a good start. I went to the link and read up on it. We have so many interesting things in NY that most of us don’t even know about. Who knew? Thanks for the lesson…I feel like a tourist.

Very cool on the bridge, Carol. I like the towering sky in this scene. It gives me a feeling of what it might be like to stand where the viewer is on this bridge. Great start. Also, thankyou for the history.

The painting is coming along well and the play was amusing – so true!! I guess that’s my exit strategy, too – in fact, it’s really the exit strategy of all of us, whether rich or poor or in-between! Have a wonderful week. Don’t exit too soon!!

I love the tall sky. I suspect the party was at Rob’s because Steve and Ryan won’t spent their money–they just count it.

The painting is already amazing, Carol. My sign shop exit strategy involves selling some investment property that the sign shop is making the payments on. As long as I own that property, the sign shop must keep ticking. I’ve already had that investment 6 years and the sign shop for over 21 years. My exit is iffy at best. he he he

I like the tall vertical format and the relaxed, un-fussed sky. Look forward to the finished piece.

I’m inspired by your urban subject matter, I’m revisiting the same topic. Always enjoy the narrative. 🙂
