Central Park Duck (work in progress) on 1/4 sheet of 140 # Arches cold press
Another animal painting? What’s up with that? I’m getting soft! Next thing you know it will be kittens and puppies!
I was looking down on this duck in a pond in Central Park watching the water swirl around it with the autumn leaves that had dropped down from the trees. This was the duck I was watching right before those raccoons popped out of the drainage pipe (see previous post). Many of the leaves were under water and the water was much darker. I decided to brighten it up a bit. We all need some brightness right now.
We in NY and NJ are still getting over the impact from Superstorm Sandy and now this horrific event in Newtown CT. I can’t even talk about it. Hug your children, hug your nieces and nephews and hug your loved ones. I’m sending a virtual hug to all of you.

This is actually really cool to go with the raccoons. I like how you caught the water ripples around the duck plus the transparent quality of the water. I’m with you! Hug our children!

It does go with the raccoons, doesn’t it. I’m glad you liked the water ripples. I was trying to create them without being too detailed.

I love the swirling look to the water and leaves. Nicely done, Carol!
Yes, we need to all hug the children in our lives. I watched coverage of the moment of silence and the ringing of the bells in tears this morning. In fact we need to hug all our loved ones…family, and friends. Life is too short!

Hi Joan, Thanks for your comment. I was at work when they had the moment of silence, but really I can’t get the whole thing out of my head.

Hi Carol! I found my way here from NIc’s eARTh. Your painting is mesmerizing. I love the ripples in the water and the leaves swirling around. You’ve rendered the reflections so beautifully! I do hope things are improving for you in the wake of Sandy – I grew up in New Jersey and spent many happy summers on the beach at Ocean City. It must be so difficult for the people living in the hardest hit areas. And the horror in Newtown – all I could do was cry, and tell my son how grateful I was to have him with me. Every minute we are given is a priceless gift. I hope you have a lovely and peaceful holiday season. Hugs, Terri

Hi Terri, thanks so much for visiting from Nic’s eARTh. She’s terrific, isn’t she? We’ve had a bit of a rough time In NY/NJ. And then the CT shootings! I agree that every minute we are given is a priceless gift.
