Flossie, the Tonkanese kitten. Watercolor on 140# Arches cold press. Approx. 9″ x 11″
I’m back from a quick trip to Jupiter (Florida, not the planet) to visit my Aunt. She is one good cook! I thought I would have gained 5 lbs, but I didn’t, even with homemade cheesecake; pasta in a cream sauce; tomato, avocado & mozzarella salad drizzled with olive oil, barbecued steak… I could go on and on. I even taught her how to make cosmos and bought her all the ingredients and the proper martini glasses to drink them from. The trip was fab and as it turns out, not fattening. Yay!
While there it rained a lot so the Husband and I went to two movies. Which are two more movies than I’ve seen in the past few years. The first movie, The Avengers, was LOUD. WHAT? I said it was LOUD! But I still managed to fall asleep in the beginning, so I have no idea why all of those super-heroes were assembled. I snorted at some point and woke myself up. The husband laughed. Until HE started to drift off at some point in the middle of the movie when a loud explosion literally lifted him out of his seat. I laughed.
It was also exciting to go to Publix, the GIANT grocery store where people actually helped you. I asked one guy if he had something I couldn’t find on the shelf. He was nice, said he would check and then actually came back to tell me they were out of the item but were getting more in tomorrow. Who does that? Where was I?
I told Charlie, my dog-walking buddy who moved to Maine, about how nice people were in Florida. He said the people are so nice up there that when they invite you over to dinner they actually mean it. But he doesn’t want to go to dinner. I told them he could move back to NYC. I’ve known him 23 years and never once invited him over for dinner.
The painting above is a watercolor of my brother-in-law’s new kitten Flossie. She is teeny and very cute.

So what was the other movie?
We never go to flix, either. Once I survive the trailers, I have to take a nap and generally cut wood right away. I judge the movie by how long it takes me to wake up. If I stay awake, it was a pretty good one.
Last week, we saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. As my old man said, “Best trip I’ll never take to Indja.”

Oh, the other movie was Snow White and the Huntsman. I stayed awake through that but only because it was an 11:00 am showing!

I love Publix! The stores are clean, well-lit, well-stocked, and the help are all good-looking.
I LOVE that Charlie didn’t want to be invited to dinner !!!!!

Charlie’s a little anti-social that way. 🙂 I loved Publix too. The people working there actually seemed to like working in a grocery store. The people working in the grocery stores in NY look like they are out on Parole.

This painting tells a lot about Flossie and her attitude to life.
Your story made me smile so wide. So recognizable.
Do you know blog of Tommy Kane? I think you’ll like it http://tommykane.blogspot.com/

Flossie is a very special kittie and knows it. I’m happy you liked the post. I didn’t know abut Tommy Kane’s blog, but will check it out. I don’t think he lives that far from me.

What!….no weight gain from all those yummies.
What?…Help in a grocery store?…Unheard of! Are you sure you were not on Jupiter the planet, because this just don’t sound right?…lol Actually, the Food Lion employees at the Food Lion in Avon on Hatteras Island are like that too!….It’s wonderful to have them tell me, “You continue shopping and I will find you when I found your item.” Wow, the hunt me down even if they find out they don’t carry it.
You sound like me at a movie….well, so does your husband.
It does sound like you had a great trip even if it did rain.
Love the kitty, they eyes are perfect, and I love the colors. Siamese is it?…Looks like it.

Don’t worry Deb, I made up for the “no weight gain” after I got home! Flossie is a Tonganese which is a mix of Siamese and Burmese.

Cute kitty, Carol. I get a kick out of you being able to fall asleep about anywhere. I am so opposite. There are times I wish I could wind down like that. I did fall asleep at one movie while on a cruise. The movie theatre was in the bow of the boat and it rocked and rolled with the waves and put me to sleep.
Grocery store personnel help here in Indiana. People get invited to dinner, here, also. New York culture is so fascinating because it is different, methinks.
Great post.

Thanks for the comment Leslie. And yes, I pretty much can fall asleep anywhere. I laughed when we went to the second movie, which started at 11 am. The old folks were carrying their blankets into the movie theater with them.

Kitty is now 2 or 3 (?) weeks older than when you saw her, and twice the size! We can see her growing every day. But she’s still the sweetest little thing ever. Love that you immortalized her in watercolors! Thanks doll! XOX

My favorite recent movie – Exotic Marigold Hotel – made me smile – A LOT! Love the kitty – you could call her Little Blue Eyes. She is a sweetie.

The painting is cute as a kittty! thanks for the reviews and the chuckles. Come to VA too, to shop…they even walk you and the groceries to the car and put them in for you …no tipping either. Of course, with the economy being the way it is I feel bad when the assistance is by a guy well near eighty who is carrying my bags, who still has to work.!!! But they are nice and chatty.

Hi Cathyann, Thanks for your comments about the kitty. Since we don’t drive to grocery stores, there’s no one to carry anything out for us. I still can’t get over how nice they were in Publix!!!

Hilarious! Flossie is adorable and I love the story of you both falling asleep during the Avenger ( at the beginning? seriously? that’s good!) I haven’t seen it yet although I want to as I am partial to the guy who plays Thor! (He used to be in an Australian soap opera I watched!)

when we went to the movies there were a bunch of older folks with blankets in case they got cold. Yet we were the ones who fell asleep! I did like the guy who plays Thor. His brother is in The Hunger Games.

Definitely a Siamese! I adore your writing! You are so funny. And it’s wonderful reading about NYC since I treasure the year I lived there and hope to do it again some day.
