Who knows where the time goes? I have no new paintings to post and only this decoupage under glass plate to show so I am posting the contents of an email that my brother who does not read my blog (“mbwdnrmb”) sent to me. I was so amused by it I thought I would share it. Mbwdnrmb won’t know I posted it. He doesn’t read my blog. So there!
As I worked on my computer this morning, Dillon came up to me with a toy helicopter. While spinning its tail rotor he asked me, “Daddy, what’s this for”? I gave him the basic technical response stating that the main rotor provides lift and allows the helicopter to move up and down and forward and back where the tail rotor counter-acts the rotational force of the main rotor and stops the body of the helicopter from spinning.
The next words out of my mouth were these:
“And you know, if you’re ever in a gun battle with a helicopter, you can win by shooting its tail rotor off.
Any fan of 80’s action movies is well aware that even though the chopper may have men armed with fully automatic assault rifles, your years of training in Special Forces and the measly 9mm hand gun you have provides you with the skill and agility to avoid being shot and the ability to shoot the tail rotor off.”
With that, Dillon marched into the kitchen and said,
“Mommy…..did you know…. that you can win a gun battle with a helicopter if you shoot its tail rotor off”???
It didn’t go over big.

Of course for a little guy it’s far cooler to glom on to the “shoot the tail rotor off” bit than to sort out counter rotational forces! Loved the story.
My brother, who doesn’t read my blog, spent ages 4 and 5 in an old, cast off WWII helmet. Never took it off. That’s what little boys are made of! 😉
Great decoupaged plate. I always end up gluing my fingers to the papers and wrecking everything.

Hello Nanina, Yes, my brother’s boys are very much boys. The little one doesn’t quite get the concept of going around something. He much prefers to push right through whatever is in his way.
Ah, the plate, I made many mistakes and not only did I glue my fingers together I also ripped many things that should have been glued. No one realizes what a long process it is.

This little boy liked playing with Barbie’s Dream House…. and G.I. Joe. Sometimes Joe visited Barbie and flirted with ken.
I like the decoupage under glass… works out really well. Do you glue it on, or fuse it, or use Modge Podge?

While you were having G.I. Joe flirt with Ken you were also wishing you could put your hair in the flip that Barbie had! LOL!
I use regular elmer’s glue for the decoupage. I wonder how one can fuse it? Do you know?

Meanwhile, the conversation at my house would have started about the tail rotor of a helicopter and ended up about hair ribbons, dress-up shoes and teddy bears. 🙂 Things girls should know! 🙂
Love the plate!!!

Lovely plate, as all your plates are! I am not sure why mommy didn’t like the tail rotor conversation… what am I missing?… I always thought conversations about helicopters very interesting… hmmm…

Your decoupage has flair, Carol! All of them. Really. They make me want to look at them and see the imagery you choose and how youchose to use it.
Thank you for sharing your brother’s story. I can honestly say I knew where this one was going! Oh, and I did not know that about the tail roter, so thank you, “my brother who does not read my blog”! 🙂

Thank you for your kind comment about my decoupage with FLAIR! I like that. I haven’t been able to paint lately due to so many other things that have come up, but I can still do the decoupage and feel like I’m creating something. thanks, Leslie.

Strange thing is, a gunboat is a ship, yet a gunship is a helicopter! My wife doesn’t read my blogs either. Enjoyed the decoupage. Is there a french word for that?

You crack me up. I believe the french work for decoupage is “decoupage”.

Hi Cathyann, with kids and grandkids I’m sure you have many stories like that.
Glad you like to plate. I find it *mostly* relaxing to do. And since I haven’t had any time to paint lately, it helps soothe me after a wonderful day at work.

kids do focus on the funniest things-clearly gun battles were more interesting than the mechanics of a rotor!
I love this plate and would love to know how you do it! that sunflower is fab.

Love the plate. Is that gold paint in there with it? It’s very pretty.
So the little boy’s starting off in the manner in which he’s gonna grow up… ! 🙂

Hi Val, yes, it’s gold metallic powders that are mixed with a binding agent. The little boy (my nephew) is adorable.

Also, I dig that sunflower!
