Here is another picture of my 100 lb barfing dog. Her name is Kaiya and she’s 4 1/2 years old. She hates the car. What dog hates the car? Apparently this dog hates the car. I took this picture of her after we drove up to Putnam County. She had already barfed in the car. Twice.
I am excited to say that my crab apple painting got into the Putnam County Arts Council Juried Show.

Lest you forgot, here’s the picture again. This time framed and hanging in the gallery. (Not the greatest picture as I took it with my phone.)
Still don’t remember? Here it is unframed, but finished:
If you’re in Putnam County, please stop by and see the show. My sister has a piece in it too. A lovely handmade book. It’s made out of old library cards. She made paper from the shredded cards and then made a book out of the paper. The cover is made from actual library cards. How cool is that? It’s called “Pulp from Fiction” and here it is:

Wow! You two are totally talented. I would definitely attend if I lived near you. Congratulations! I have had two dogs who get ill in the car. It’s not all that uncommon. Your vet can tell you what to give her to help settle her stomach before a trek. I get car sick in the back seat to this day.

my old dog LOVED the car. You would say the word car and she would get so excited and run to the door waiting. This one goes in the other direction. We’ve tried a bunch of things. Now we just don’t feed her before we take her in the car and hope for the best.

I am sure that Kaiya’s barfing is no reflection on the magnificent quality of the Chebba sister’s artwork. Brava to both of you. I hope to see the show.

Pulp from Fiction!! A brilliant concept.
Hooray for Alice and tell her if she gets any more clever or talented, SHE too will be forced to start a blog! We’ll find her and duct tape her to the keyboard until she cries ” blogstats “.
That crabapple painting is one of my favorites- congratulations on another exhibit of your work.
Poor Kaiya- and I guess she’s going to have another car ride when you come here….
Is there anything canine related that can be given to counteract the effects of carsickness like there is for humans?

Funny you should say Alice should start a blog. I think she might. And then we can yell blog-stats together.

You clever-clogs you! So well done for having your painting accepted for the show – it looks so cool up there on the wall – and doesn’t that frame really enhance it? Well deserved – hope you win a prize.
Kaiya looks so sweet natured. I also really like the idea of making a paper from used paper. “Pulp from Fiction” – clever! I suppose the paper can’t be used as it is a work of art in its own right – but I’ll bet it would be wonderful to draw on.

June, my sister is the clever one. And the real artist! Yes, the books themselves are the art, but I want her to make more books so I can have one to draw or paint in.
Kaiya is a very sweet dog MOST of the time. She just doesn’t like:
1. Yappy/barky aggressive dogs. She tries to bite them.
2. The car.
Other than that, she’s a LOVELY doggie.

You are a talent! And a well deserved recognition for your talent.
My art has been in a lot of art competitions, that’s the good news, the bad is, you really never know what the judges are looking for, I have seen great art pieces win, but then I have seen some art that could have been mistaken for piled trash in the corner of the room, win. Just remember whether you win or lose, you have a great piece and you should be proud!

Hi Ryan,
Of course you’re right about not knowing what the judges are looking for. And I agree that sometimes the pieces that win can make you scratch your head and say “huh”. But I was thrilled they just selected my painting to be in the show. That was very exciting.

Carol, I love the apple painting, well done. Are you selling it or just showing it? Your dog is sooo cute she reminds me of my Daisy, who also pukes in the car.

Jay, the painting is for sale. Whether or one it sells, who knows. I have my fingers crossed. Would love to see a picture of Daisy. What kind of dog is she?

Terrific! Congratulations, Carol! It looks very good framed and unframed.Brava! I love your sister’s cleverness with the book and the title.
As far as your poor dog…mine used to also. But only on long trips and on my kids who sat in the back with her. Ask the vet if dramamine would help.

Hi Cathyann. Amazing how paintings always look better framed!
I love my sister’s piece. She’s working on her own show in March 2010 which will be, of all places, at her local library! It’s going to be awesome. I am her art assistant. (Along with her kids.)
We’ve tried dramamine. That didn’t work. Now we just don’t feed her before a trip and hope for the best. She usually always gets to see her cousin, Gus, the golden retriever (my sister’s dog) after the car ride so I don’t know what she’s complaining about. She loves Gus.

Rahina, You can always borrow Svetlana. She’s very reliable and I’m sure can get you from your place to Putnam County. Just don’t try to get there by going through New Jersey!!!!

Hey well done – this is a worthy piece of work.
Kaiya is so sweet man – she just wants to be squeezed!
I hope you have said goodbye to the painting, and have left a blog reference on it – the whole story about how you developed it is so exciting.
You are a master – Carol – tip top!

I’m a blog friend of Bonnie’s and WRJones too. I’ve been reading your comments on Bonnie’s site for months now, and you always make me laugh!
A car-sick dog? Weird! Do you have to, like, sit her on a shower curtain whenever you’re going to go for a drive? Is she actually afraid to get in the car, or wants to go but then gets sick? Curious minds want to know. (She’s adorable, by the way.)
