I made a ton of coasters and plates for the Arts Council Holiday Craft Fair. Now Christmas is over and just before we get to 2012, I have another birthday. Once again, I am not 60!
December 28. As my friend Chris once told me in his North Carolina butter melting accent “Doesn’t it just suck to have to share the spotlight with the baby Jesus?”
Yes, Chris. Yes it does.
Famous people with a December 28th birthday:
Denzel Washington, Dame Maggie Smith, Oprah’s friend Gayle King (no relation) and Woodrow Wilson, to name a few. But I don’t know any of them. So happy birthday to all my friends and family who share this day with me:
The Husband’s partner Sean
Mark, the owner of the bar around the corner
Bob, my friend who lives two blocks away and whom I never see
My sister’s neighbor Gayle Aprile
My friend Aram’s sister
Taryn’s dog Domino
If I knew what I was doing I could tell you the sizes of the plates. The coasters below, which came out huge in the pictures, are just regular sized coasters. Oh well, Maybe now that I’m another year older I’ll figure this blogging thing out.
Happy and healthy 2012 to all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU1!!! I hope you get presents on your birthday and don’t get that, “This is for Christmas and your birthday” crap! Love the coasters and I’d guess that there are many artists out there past 60 who say 60 is not so bad…it’s just another number (I say this because I am slowly creeping up on that age, too, but don’t have to worry about it for a while…and if the Mayan’s are correct, we don’t have to worry about that at all!).

In only joke that I’m not 60 because of the time, many years ago when friends gave me a cake with 6 candles on it (that was all they could find) and this young (20 something) woman told me I looked great for 60!
And I have a firm rule, If you give me birthday present with Christmas wrapping paper, I will consider it a belated Christmas gift. Puhleeze!
LOL!
always nice to see you here Rhonda. Thanks for your comments.

Carol-
Oh my, the coasters and plates are lovely. You are so inspiring. I wish I were bold enough to branch out and try something like this.
Happy Birthday you perennial 59 year old you!!! I’m more shocked at all the people you have to share your birth-date with! It should be a national holiday
Yours,
Nanina

Hello Nanina, I’m happy you like the plates and coasters. They are quite time consuming, but a lot of fun to do. Since I work full time, I only get to do this on weekends and evenings if I have the energy. Give it a try!
And yes, I’ve always said my birthday should be a national holiday! LOL!
Thank you very much for your comments on the coasters and plates.
PS, I still have a few years for 59 too!

Happy Birthday! And happy coasters! I would be hesitant to set a drink on them; I would just drink, and look, and never set my glass down. Probably ruin my liver.
And I will always be a year older than you !

Coasters and plates are trulycreative. I really like the one you featured at the top with the woman in the hat with a tree. The blues are beautiful in all of these.

Hi Carol,
I love your coasters. They are gorgeous! Happy Un-60th Birthday to you. Perhaps, I will create some beading on canvas for you to enjoy. Brings back memories, huh? How come we shared a class and you got all the talent? The only thing I ever created was my children. They did turn out pretty good, though. LOL!
Hopefully, 2012 will be the year we see each other. We can celebrate and eat things that are good for us (or not), and check our blood glucose together.
Hope your birthday is wonderful in every way!

your coasters are wonderful.
will you be at Times Square tonight? i don’t much care for new year’s eve but i think i would still love to be in Times Square for it just once! hope you have a great night wherever you spend it!

Hello Nicola. I’m still fixated on the beautiful photos from Achill Island. I would love to go there.
I would never in a million years go to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. The Husband has worked it a number of times though. Visitors get penned in as they arrive and are basically stuck in the pens until right after midnight. The earlier you get there, the better the spot, but you can’t leave, you can’t go to the bathroom and you can’t bring any liquids. Does NOT sound like fun to me. I think it’s more fun to watch it on TV. But this year the Husband is off so we may go up to the park and watch the fireworks.
Whatever you do, even if it is going to bed early, I hope you have a terrific 2012!

Happy belated birthday – & Happy New Year too.
Nice effect with the cut out flowers on the dark blue – what type of flowers are they based on? – they remind me a bit of wild rose.

It is a regular decoupage technique except that you apply the images, bronzing powders and paint from underneath. One of these days I should take pictures and document the steps.
Happy Birthday to you too!

Happy belated Birthday! Mine was yesterday… I wish I looked 30, had the energy of 19, but instead I’m 30+19=49 and showing every year of it!
You did a wonderful job on the coasters…. for a 60 year old! LOL
